Mary F. Hutchinson Obituary

Mary Frances Hutchinson was born on May 29, 1930 to the late John and Maggie Smith in Eastville, VA. She was the tenth child of eleven children born to her parents; granddaughter of, Jenny Upshur, who came to this country as a slave at the age of 10 from Guinea, Africa who lived to be 106 years old and the granddaughter of a Gingaskin Indian, Sarah Reid of Eastville, VA. On February 11, 2026, Mary Frances succumbed to her illness and transitioned from her earthly body.

She was educated by the Northampton County Public School District. After graduation she relocated to Philadelphia, PA where she worked at numerous jobs; nurse’s aide at Bryn Mawr Hospital, in a factory as a clothes presser, and also did Income Tax preparation for many years.

She received a degree in early Childhood education from Trenton State College. She worked as a Pre-K teacher for 16 years. She also worked at Westminster Head Start as a head start teacher.

Mary Frances was a member and volunteered at Grand Chapel AME Church where she helped with the Eucharist every first Sunday. She loved sewing and cooking and everybody just loved her home made rolls.

She was the last survivor of 10 siblings therefore she is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Meagan Smith and Margaret Smith Nottingham and brothers, Stanley, David, Isaac, Joseph, James, Rufus, Otha and Charles Smith.

She leaves to cherish her most precious memories her eight loving children; Jonathan (Cynthia), Quadyrah Muhammad (aka Sylvia) (Ahmed), Dwight, Henry (aka Junior) (Nicey), Ali Faruq Mahdi (aka Craig) (Amina), Richard (Blanche) and Millie; Twenty-seven grandchildren, Sixty great-grandchildren, Four great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She will be missed beyond measure.

 

Funeral service will be 11am Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Princeton Deliverance Center, 301 Southard St., Trenton, NJ 08609. Calling hour will be 10am until time of service at the church. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
